Chatham, Kent: Two Men Arrested Over Fatal House Fire

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 22-year-old mother and her 15-month-old son died in a house fire.

Police were called to the terraced property in Chatham Hill, Chatham, at around 2.30am following a report of a fire.

Three people – the mother’s parents and her brother – were also taken to hospital with injuries suffered in the blaze.

A police spokeswoman said: “Three casualties were taken to hospital and neighbouring properties were evacuated.”

“A man has suffered serious burns and is described as being in a life-threatening condition at East Grinstead hospital.

“A man, thought to be in his 20s, has suffered serious injuries (broken bones) and a woman suffered burn and smoke inhalation injuries.”

Chief Superintendent Neil Jerome said: “This is a tragic incident and we have launched a joint investigation with Kent Fire and Rescue Service to establish exactly what has happened.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at around the time of the fire.”
