Dublin & Co Cavan: Three Cannabis Grow Houses Discovered & Five Arrested As Gardai Target Organised Chinese Drug Gang: UPDATED

Gardaí are questioning five people this morning following the discovery of three cannabis growhouses in Dublin and Co Cavan.

Almost 1,000 plants at various stages of growth were seized at units in Inchicore, Park West and Ballyconnell.

The seizures are the latest as part of ‘Operation Nitrogen’, which is investigating an Asian organised crime group.

The four men and a woman are all believed to come from China and were arrested following a Garda National Drugs Unit operation.

Firstly, a 28-year-old woman was arrested after she had brought food, water and other provisions to two men whom she then locked in a warehouse in the Jamestown Business Park in Inchicore.

The men, aged 27 and 33, were acting as gardeners in the growhouse, cultivating 500 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of over €200,000.

These men were kept locked in and when the gardaí found them they were eating their food.

Then last night, a second growhouse was found in an industrial unit at the Park West Enterprise Centre.

Another man asleep on a mat was arrested there and another 270 plants, estimated to be worth around €120,000 were found there.

A third growhouse with 209 plants worth around €80,000 was also found last night in Ballyconnell in Cavan. Another man was arrested there.

One of the suspects is the subject of a deportation order and all five detainees be questioned for up to a week.


Two men and a woman detained in relation to a drug seizure in Dublin are to appear in court tomorrow.

The men, aged 27 and 33 years, and the woman (28) were arrested following the seizure of 500 cannabis plants in Jamestown Industrial Estate in Inchicore on Friday afternoon.

The plants, which were at various stages of growth, had an estimated street value of over €200,000.

Their arrests were part of an operation in which almost 1,000 plants were seized following other searches in Clondalkin in Dublin and Ballyconnell in Co Cavan.

A man in his late 20s was detained in relation to a seizure at the Enterprise Business Park, Clondalkin.

Some 270 cannabis plants with an estimated value of €108,000 were discovered.

He remains in custody at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

A man in his 40s arrested over the discovery of cannabis plants in Ballyconnell appeared at a special sitting of Cavan District court yesterday afternoon.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Carrickmacross District Court on the 20th of April.
