Officers said they have concerns for the siblings’ welfare as they have not been seen since last Thursday.

Gardai said they want to trace the whereabouts of horse gambling industry figure Steven Appleton, 30, from Sussex, England.

They said the children were staying in Ardee, Co Louth, while their mother was in hospital.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai are renewing their appeal for assistance from the public with regards to these missing children.

“We have concerns for their welfare.”

Gardai believe they may be in Northern Ireland.

They said Mr Appleton is believed to have possession of a silver Vauxhall Zafira, registered number DY08 JYF.
