BREAKING NEWS: Ashbourne, Derbyshire: Four Children Die In House Fire

Four children have died in a house fire in the village of Hulland Ward, near Ashbourne, according to Derbyshire Police.

Emergency services were called to a semi-detached house on Highfield Road at around 11.30pm last night.

A police spokesman said two boys, thought to be aged nine and four, and two girls, aged six and two, were killed in the blaze which caused “significant damage” to the property.

A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said four fire engines attended the scene, adding: “The fire was well developed on arrival.”

The children’s mother, believed to be in her 40s, survived and is being treated for the effects of smoke inhalation at the Royal Derby Hospital.

Police and the fire service have begun an investigation into the cause of the incident which is currently unknown.
